New Entryway Lights

New Entryway Lights

Since we moved into our house I have all but hated the lights in our entryway.  I'm sure that sounds dramatic, but it's true.  Lighting is SO important to a space.  Light it's self can entirely change the way a room feels and looks and the fixture not only dictates the amount of light a space will receive but the aesthetic vibe as well. Builder grade lighting rarely hits the mark and my builder grade lighting seriously was not doing it for me. We have already upgraded our kitchen pendant lights...

Cinco de Mayo Recipe Round-up

Cinco de Mayo Recipe Round-up

Cinco de Mayo is just a week away and around here that means you better to get your stretchy pants ready and your liver in check because the way Texans celebrate is with mucho tacos y tequila!  Every great holiday comes with great food and this one ranks up at the top of the "great food" list as far as I'm concerned.  If I'm being honest though... pretty much every sunny, warm day in Austin Texas may as well be Cinco de Mayo.

Spring House Tour

Spring House Tour

Spring has officially sprung!! I love this time of year, the weather is getting warmer, the days are getting longer and the wildflowers are in bloom. We've been busy getting our home warm weather ready; working in the flower beds and prepping the lawn for new growth.  I've done (some) spring cleaning and taken advantage of the nice weather by opening all of the windows and letting fresh air in.

February Favorites

February Favorites

February was a great month, Valentines Day came with lots of yummy treats, we built overhead storage shelves in our garage, I started working on my daughters room and I threw my sister a baby shower! To top it all off the weather here was FANTASTIC and I celebrated my birthday.  We are officially celebrating in a few weeks with a trip to Round Top for Antique Week, but we did have a fabulous dinner at Jasper's! I haven't posted favorites in months so it was hard to narrow down what to post, but these 6 items are things that are newer or stand out particularly these past few weeks!

Chicken Avocado Soup

Chicken Avocado Soup

I have a confession to make : I don't really like soup.  There, I said it... I know that some people will think I'm crazy, but I just don't. I also don't really like cold weather and soup and cold weather just kind of seem to go hand in hand.  Luckily I live in a place where it doesn't get too cold for too long! With that being said, I do LOVE this soup!!!  I love it so much it is one of the only things that I truly look forward to when the weather starts getting cooler.

Farmhouse Chic Pendant Round up

Farmhouse Chic Pendant Round up

I love lighting.  I mean I really LOVE lighting!  I love chandeliers and lamps and sconces and pendant lights!  I love them all and I love what they do for a room and for your decor.  Lighting above all will make the biggest difference in your space.  Bigger than paint or rugs or color or texture.  But I feel like it is the thing most commonly overlooked by people when decorating or redecorating.  I don't know why, perhaps it is that sometimes new lighting can be costly or because it will take a professional to install if you aren't familiar with electrical work and can't DIY it? Either way it worth the time and money you will have to invest!

This Wednesday marks the first day of fall and while the rest of the country is starting to get glimpses of the seasons changing here in Central Texas it's still HOT and dry!  Highs are still in the 90's everyday with not much end in sight.  But 90's are a welcome change to the 100 degree weather that we experience for most of the summer!

DIY : Star Wall

I love that we have a space in our main living area for our daughter to play and keep some toys.  Not only is it easy for us to hang out together, rather than being in separate rooms while she plays and I go about duties in the house, but it also gives a dedicated area for all the toys.  So. Many. Toys.....  and pieces....

Farmhouse Chic Chandelier Round Up

am really excited to have a breakfast nook in the new house!  I love breakfast nooks so much I have a whole Ideabook dedicated to them on Houzz!  But, our breakfast nook is definitely builder blah.... and since it is one of the most used spaces in our home it is the first to be getting a makeover.  One of the easiest ways to really customize a space is to change the lighting.  Whether you have a builder blah house or your home just needs an update lighting is a great place to start! I have decided to call the style for our main living area "Farmhouse Chic".

How to Hang Wall Art : part one

How to Hang Wall Art : part one

It's always fun to get new art up on your walls, but sometimes it can be a really intimidating task especially when you are hanging several items together.  I figured it was finally time that I took the plunge and start hanging somethings on our bare walls.  We have a nice open living area that encompasses our kitchen, breakfast room, family room and a small play area for our daughter.
