Spring House Tour

Spring has officially sprung!! I love this time of year, the weather is getting warmer, the days are getting longer and the wildflowers are in bloom. We've been busy getting our home warm weather ready; working in the flower beds and prepping the lawn for new growth. I've done (some) spring cleaning and taken advantage of the nice weather by opening all of the windows and letting fresh air in.
I haven't posted many pictures of the inside of our home since my empty house tour, mostly because it's not finished and there is still a few big things I want to do before I'm really happy with it. I decided however, to just get over that! This blog is supposed to be a journey, it's supposed to encourage YOU along the way with me, wherever you are with your home. No home is actually ever "finished", it's better to think of it as a living thing, it changes with you and your family, it needs love and care and maintenance. It's no secret that decorating a home can be very expensive... even when your trying to be resourceful things just add up and you can't do everything you want at once and THAT'S OK! Take time to enjoy the process: build those Pinterest boards, binge watch Fixer Upper and DREAM BIG!

Front Porch
I like to keep a few pots on our porch and update them throughout the year with seasonal plants. In my experience they are a little easier to maintain than the ones in the flower bed and annuals are usually pretty inexpensive so that's a great way to add some pops of color!

Entryway
I designed this table based on a Pottery Barn console table that I loved and my husband helped me build it a few months ago. I was having a hard time finding a table to work in this space because it needed to be pretty narrow. My design is considerably smaller than the Pottery Barn one, but it fits perfectly and it was only about $50 to build! I just hung a spare mirror above to bring some light into the space, eventually I would like a prettier mirror, but we had this one already and I love the size of it.

Kitchen
I love that the kitchen in this house has SO much more counter space and cabinet space than in our last one. I love to cook and I do it a lot so I try to keep the décor in our kitchen pretty simple and useful, especially in the areas that I frequently use when cooking. I like having something pretty on the island, but tend to keep those items on a tray so that its easy to move and clean around. If you ready my Pendant Round-up now you get to see what I ended up going with! I love these lights, in my opinion the only way to do them is with the long Edison bulbs. These bulbs don't give off a lot of light, so if you are needing light in your kitchen you won't want these; they are more decorative.

Breakfast Nook
So many memories have already been made around this table. I love that it is a sunny spot for me to work from during the day and a cozy place to eat and laugh and relax with friends and family. Eventually we will build and new table and change the blinds out for a roman shade. I decided to go with this light from my chandelier round-up; I love that it is simple and is slightly rustic without going overboard. Typically I like a simple tablescape and I'm really happy with this one; it's fresh and simple and used a lot of items that I had on hand! No spring centerpiece is complete without fresh flowers; don't over look the resources around you. You don't have to purchase expensive floral arrangements, sometimes simple is better! I purchased 3 stems of hydrangeas from my grocery store and cut some snap dragons and branches from the bushes in our yard and divided them among ball jars.

Living Room
The living room is coming along nicely, but it desperately needs draperies and a coffee table! The draperies are my next big thing and we will build a coffee table in the next couple of months, I'm sure. I love all of light in here and I especially love that it is open to the kitchen and breakfast! We built our TV console a few months ago using this tutorial. I found the salvaged windmill in Roundtop during the fall Antique Week.
From season to season I update the pillows with new cases. Pillowcases are a great, inexpensive way to update a space. I only purchase pillowcases that have zippers so that they are removable for washing and storing when not in use. Envelope closures are ok in places where the pillow won't get used much like throw pillows on a bed, but for our sofa pillows I prefer zippers.
Stairwell
The window niche in our stairwell is constantly providing an exciting challenge. My fiddle leaf fig seems to be really happy on this window ledge... it didn't do very well in the living room, but that could have been more me than it. I usually keep the same things on the shelf and add a couple of seasonal items. For spring I filled the lanterns with Spanish moss and speckled eggs and I traded out the branches in the wine jugs for ones with green leaves on them. I made the standing easter eggs using wooden egg cutouts, scrapbook paper and spray adhesive; it was really easy!
